Tête à Tête with Gogol

Série carnets de voyage.

Design by  Valia Eydis

Texte/ drawing Dimitri Merkoulov

Narrated and illustrated by Dimitri Merkoulov, this book of 36 pages was printed on 200g matte vellum in October 2025 on the Varan press in Antheselitho lithography workshop. Montrouge.

In the spring of 2020, just as we were emerging from lockdown, Dimitri showed me his sketchbooks. Inside, I found the story of Nikolai Vasilievitch Gogol, who, in the artist's imagination, wanders through our modern world, a world turned upside down by the Covid epidemic. His humor, self-deprecation, the finesse of his lines, and subtlety of his writing captivated me and inspired me to share his book with a wider audience. From our friendship of over thirty years was born this first volume, "From Moscow to Roma", which launches a new series - travels journals.
